Robbed on a BKK-DAD Flight: Police Papers Translated by Lunch

A real case from October 2026: L. had cash and bank cards taken on a flight from BKK-DAD. He had already done the paperwork at the airport police himself. He needed one thing, a translator to translate and sign, and he found me by asking ChatGPT. Everything was finished in half a day.

Key takeaways

  • Theft from carry-on bags on flights into Da Nang is not one-off: this is the second case I handled in two months.
  • You can do most of the police paperwork yourself. The step foreigners get stuck on is the translation and the translator's signature.
  • You do not have to wait around: soft copies came by WhatsApp within the morning, hard copies were delivered to the hotel after lunch.
  • From "I'm here" at 7:28 to signed copies in hand at 13:11: under six hours.

The situation

In October 2026, L. flew from BKK-DAD. During the flight, cash and his bank cards were taken.

He handled the first part well. He went to the police station at Da Nang airport and completed the paperwork himself. What he could not do was the last step: the documents had to be translated, and the translation signed by the translator.

How he found me

One evening he messaged on WhatsApp, asking if I was free and what it would cost. I said yes and we arranged a quick call.

When I asked how he had found me, he said he asked ChatGPT to find an interpreter in Da Nang, and it pointed him to this website. I mention it because it is how more travelers now search when something goes wrong abroad: they ask an AI assistant, not a search engine.

The next morning, hour by hour

  • 07:28: L. messaged that he had arrived.
  • 08:17: he sent his hotel location.
  • 08:55: I told him I would collect the papers within two hours and bring the hard copies that afternoon. He did not need to stay in: he could go out, and if he was away I would leave them at reception.
  • 09:47: I sent the two translated documents on WhatsApp as soft copies.
  • 13:11: I handed the signed hard copies to him at his hotel.

The point of sending soft copies first is simple: if the bank or insurer wants something today, he already has it on his phone, and he does not lose his holiday waiting for paper.

The review

At 15:37 I sent him the Trustpilot link. He left this at 17:56:

★★★★★
“Excellent service. Very punctual, professional, and always willing to help. Everything went smoothly, and I really appreciated the support throughout the process. Highly recommended!”
L., review on Trustpilot, October 2026

The next day I messaged to wish him a safe flight and reminded him to keep his wallet and passport on his body, not in the overhead bin. He thanked me, and that was the end of the job.

What we do not know

The chat does not say whether his bank refunded anything. I only report what I saw.

Two flights, the same pattern

In August, B. lost two cards from a bag in the overhead bin on a SGN-DAD flight. In October, L. lost cash and cards on a BKK-DAD flight. Different airlines and routes, same weak point: a bag out of sight above your head.

  • Keep cards, cash and passport on your body or in the bag under the seat in front of you.
  • If you must use the overhead bin, take your wallet out first.
  • Switch on your phone as soon as you land and check your bank app.

If you already filed with the police and only need the translation

  1. Photograph every page the police gave you.
  2. Send them to me on WhatsApp with your hotel location.
  3. You get soft copies on your phone first, then signed hard copies delivered to your hotel or left at reception.

FAQ

Can I do the police paperwork without an interpreter?

L. did most of it himself. The translation and the translator's signature were what he still needed.

Do I have to wait at the hotel?

No. Soft copies come by WhatsApp, and hard copies can be left at reception.

How fast is it?

In this case, soft copies about two and a half hours after he arrived, hard copies by early afternoon.
